The Indian Palm Squirrel or three-striped palm squirrel (Funambulus palmarum,) are native to India and Sri Lanka. The three striped variety are found mainly South of the Vindhyas, while the closely related Five Stripe Palm Squirrel, (Funambulus pennantii,) lives in the North of India, with the ranges of the two species slightly overlapping.
There is not a lot of information available online about them, especially about health problems, but a very disturbing pattern of a flesh eating condition has emerged, and has been killing these delightful little rodents all across India and Sri Lanka..
There is not a lot of information available online about them, especially about health problems, but a very disturbing pattern of a flesh eating condition has emerged, and has been killing these delightful little rodents all across India and Sri Lanka..

The condition usually starts as a red spot, and quickly starts spreading, until it consumes larger and larger portions of skin, in an ever growing, flesh eating manner of spreading from the original spot. The condition removes skin and hair as it progresses, and leave nothing but raw, subcutaneous tissue that is vulnerable to infection. Up until now, this condition has been treated as an infection in much the same way as a staph skin infection. Many Veterinarians are giving Betadine antiseptic and Silvadene cream, but these topical applications do not seem to have much effect on this condition.
The squirrel with the leg lesion,(pictured on right,) was in the same house as the one above with the tail, when he broke out with the red spot. he was immediately started on the Colloidal Silver/ Herb, Ivermectin mixture and watched for progression of the disease. Below are pictures of the progression of the lesion. After one week on the mixture, the lesion formed a crater with a ring of induration surrounding it, which seemed to give the appearance of getting worse. |
The image on the left, shows a tail completely engulfed. This squirrel died as a result of the progression of the disease when it bit into an artery and bled-out. The squirrel had been started on a combination of Colloidal Silver and an Immune System boosting herb plus Ivermectin , but it was too little, too late, even though the squirrel seemed to be starting to respond to the treatment! As you can see on the left, after one week of treatment, the lesion formed a crater and appeared to be a little worse, but what was happening is that the squirrels' immune system was walling off the infection with a surrounding layer of induration, ( what they call in Sri Lanka, " The lesion was Brewing Up,") by isolating the area to prevent it from spreading, the immune system was able to contain and destroy the infection By the end of three weeks of treatment, there was no sign of the disease, as you can see in the picture on the left. The skin was healed and the lesion was gone. If you, or anyone you know has a Palm Squirrel with this condition, we have information below that can help you . This condition spreads very rapidly so the sooner treatment is started the greater the chances of success! |
We've been researching flesh eating skin diseases that are common to India, and believe that we may have discovered what is causing this widespread skin condition.
We found that a parasite that is spread by the bite of sand flies can produce this type of skin condition. The condition is only allowed to be called an "Immune Challenge", but since nobody cares enough to make an official diagnosis, this is what we are stuck with!. We also found that these parasites are sensitive to Colloidal Silver.
One major problem we have is the time and expense it take to get treatment shipped to India and Sri Lanka from the United States, ( averaging 3 weeks or more.) We now have a solution to this problem! We now have an associate who is located in Sri Lanka, who is able to ship our product and get it to our customers in a matter of days rather than weeks!
We are excited to be able to offer this treatment to the people of Sri Lanka through our associate, because we have found that there are a large number of people who have these squirrels as pets, that are desperately trying to find a treatment that works!
If you are interested in receiving further information about how you can obtain this treatment, please fill out the contact information below, and we will get this information right out to you!
